Can Smart Shoes Improve Walking in Parkinson’s?
Researchers at QUT are looking for people living with Parkinson’s disease who experience freezing of gait (when your feet feel “stuck” or glued to the ground) to participate in an exciting research study.
Who can participate?
- Aged 40–85 years
- Diagnosed with Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease by a neurologist
- Experience freezing when starting to walk, turning, or walking through narrow spaces
- Able to walk independently without a walking aid
- Able to read and understand English
About the study:
Participants will attend a single 3-hour session at QUT Kelvin Grove, where they’ll wear innovative smart shoes that provide gentle vibrations while completing a range of walking tasks. The research aims to improve understanding of freezing of gait and support the development of future treatments.
