National Parkinson’s Alliance

At Parkinson’s Queensland, we are proud to be part of the National Parkinson’s Alliance (NPA), a collaborative network of leading organisations, researchers, clinicians and advocates working together to improve the lives of people living with Parkinson’s across Australia.

The National Parkinson’s Alliance was established to create a unified national voice for the Parkinson’s community and drive meaningful change through advocacy, research, policy development and improved access to services and support. The Alliance works across sectors and disciplines to address the growing impact of Parkinson’s, which is now recognised as the world’s fastest-growing neurological condition. More than 200,000 Australians are currently living with Parkinson’s, with someone diagnosed every 40 minutes.

Australia’s First National Parkinson’s Action Plan

The Australian Government appointed the National Parkinson’s Alliance to develop and implement Australia’s first National Parkinson’s Action Plan (NPAP). This landmark initiative will help shape future government policy and investment in healthcare, disability services, aged care and research to ensure Australians affected by Parkinson’s receive equitable access to the support and services they need.

The Action Plan focuses on improving outcomes in areas including:

  • Earlier detection and diagnosis
  • Better access to specialised healthcare and support services
  • Increased investment in research and innovation
  • Improved quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s and their care partners
  • Greater awareness and understanding of Parkinson’s across Australia

Parkinson’s Queensland’s Involvement

As a member organisation, Parkinson’s Queensland contributes to a united national effort to ensure the voices of Queenslanders living with Parkinson’s are represented in conversations that shape the future of Parkinson’s care and support in Australia.

Our involvement allows us to:

  • Advocate for the needs and priorities of people living with Parkinson’s in Queensland
  • Collaborate with leading Parkinson’s organisations, researchers and clinicians nationwide
  • Contribute to national policy discussions and strategic initiatives
  • Share local insights and lived experiences to inform future decision-making
  • Help create a stronger, more connected Parkinson’s community across Australia

Through this partnership, we are working towards a future where every person affected by Parkinson’s has access to timely diagnosis, equitable care, innovative treatments and the support they need to live well. Together, we are creating lasting change for current and future generations impacted by Parkinson’s.
