This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced health promotion professional to work for an expanding NGO organisation that provides support, awareness, information and training to improve the health, wellbeing and quality of life of Queenslanders affected by Parkinson’s disease.
About the Role
This is a newly created position within our organisation. As a member of our Health Information Team, you will take a leading role in providing support, information, awareness and resources to people living with Parkinson’s, their families, carers, health professionals and the general community. A key component of this role is providing support to our 48 Support Groups throughout Queensland.
This is a hands-on role involving all facets of health promotion including program planning and evaluation. The Health Promotion Officer will work with our Nurse Educator as part of our Health Information Team.
To be successful in this role you will need a record of achievement as a health promotion professional, an ability to identify and implement new opportunities and communicate with confidence.
We are seeking an exceptional and passionate individual with –
- An understanding of the issues facing people with a chronic illness
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Effective organisational skills, with the ability to work to deadlines on multiple priorities
- A professional and positive can-do attitude
Qualifications and experience
- Qualifications in health promotion, public health, social work or community development.
- Experience in developing and implementing health promotion initiatives.
- Ability to collect statistics, prepare reports and evaluate health promotion programs.
About Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson’s disease is the 2nd most common neurological degenerative condition after Alzheimer’s disease and, at present, the cause is not known and there is no cure. Parkinson’s affects individuals of all ages. It is an individualised disease with unique symptoms to each person. It is estimated that there are over 17,000 people in Queensland affected by Parkinson’s.
About Parkinson’s Queensland
Parkinson’s Queensland Inc (PQI) is a non-profit, community-based organisation established in 1986.
PQI provides research, information, counselling, awareness, information and support to people living with Parkinson’s in Queensland. Our resources such as our Information Line and our network of 48 Support Groups throughout Queensland have helped many individuals and their families better manage living with Parkinson’s.
We also play an advocacy role on behalf of the Parkinson’s community and strive to increase community awareness about the disease through educational sessions and promotional events.
